Aligners
Invisalign® Aligners
Aligners are a great option for many of our patients! Aligners are a series of computer and doctor-generated clear plastic trays that gradually move your teeth to the desired position. Patients progress through a series of trays, wearing each set one week at a time. Patients have periodic visits at the office to confirm the teeth are moving as expected and are seen at the end of the series to evaluate for additional aligners.
There are certain cases where aligners are more effective than braces and certain cases where braces are more effective. Most cases can be treated effectively with either and patients are able to choose. Many adults prefer and expect aligner treatment. This is also becoming a preferred and effective option for teens and kids.
Aligners provide many benefits. They are discreet since the trays are nearly invisible. Additionally, since they are removed while eating so patients do not have to avoid hard and sticky foods like they do with braces. Lastly, it is much less time intensive to maintain good oral hygiene since they can be removed when brushing.
We often need to place attachments, or tooth-colored bumps, on the teeth while in aligner treatment. This creates more surface area in more planes of space to facilitate more predictable and effective tooth movement. Since every patient’s case is unique, every patient requires an individualized approach with attachments.
Just remember, they don’t work if they aren’t worn! Adults and teens need to wear them 20-22 hrs/day! Kids need to wear them 12-16 hrs/day. We primarily offer Invisalign® aligners, an industry leader. At your free initial consult, we will discuss your treatment plan and review options.
