Digital Radiographs

Radiographs are an important part of orthodontic treatment. These records help orthodontists assess the health of the teeth and surrounding areas, as well as evaluate the patient’s skeletal structure. There are certain issues such as short roots or impacted teeth that can only be diagnosed with radiographs, and these issues can significantly impact a patient’s orthodontic treatment plan. Fortunately, recent updates in radiology technology have decreased the radiation patients receive from orthodontic radiographs. For example, the two radiographs we take as part of our complimentary consult have a combined radiation dose that is similar to the radiation one receives when flying on an airplane! Due to the immense value of radiographs in accurate treatment planning coupled with their low radiation, they are an essential part of orthodontic treatment.
