Impacted Teeth
Impacted Teeth
As an orthodontic specialist, we provide orthodontic services for all cases, from mild cases with slight spaces and misalignment to complex cases with impacted teeth. An impacted tooth is one that has become stuck on a neighboring tooth or bone, and as a result, did not fully erupt into the correct position. Any tooth can become impacted, but we primarily see it with canines, 2nd premolars and molars.
Every impacted tooth is different, so our treatment varies depending on the situation. Orthodontic treatment for these cases can be more complex when the impacted tooth is positioned far away from its ideal position. Treatment may involve a procedure at our office or at an oral surgeon’s office to expose the tooth if it is covered by gum tissue. Impacted teeth on older patients respond less predictably to orthodontic forces so age is also a factor in determining the best treatment approach.
At your complimentary consult, we will review your case and discuss any impactions. Our new patient exam records include radiographs that give us important information on the severity of the impaction and we are able to give recommendations on your unique case.
